Zardari calls for counter-terror strategy

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday called for working on a counter-terrorism strategy within the agreed parameters and creating an effective intelligence sharing mechanism between the US and Pakistan.

Talking to Director of US National Intelligence Dennis C. Blair, the president said that United States should assist Pakistan in civilian nuclear technology to help the country overcome its energy crisis and also help bridge the trust deficit between the two countries.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, DG ISI General Pasha and other top officials were also present during the meeting.

Zardari also called upon the US administration for early transfer of drone technology to Pakistan for its effective use by our own security forces and for its wider public acceptability.

Zardari said that US drone attacks on Pakistan’s soil not only infringe upon the country’s sovereignty but also undermine the national consensus against the war on militancy.
